Nakshatra & Health

In classical Jyotisha, each of the twenty-seven Nakshatras governs a specific region of the human body, a category of omens drawn from garments, and an auspicious locality on the earth's surface. The Brihat Samhita of Varāhamihira enumerates the body-region correspondences as well as the Garbhini Anga — the limb of the pregnant woman that is especially sensitive during each lunar mansion. The Muhurta Chintamaniidentifies the presiding deity or stellar lord of each Nakshatra, while the Gnana Pradeepika (Jñāna Pradīpikā) specifies the precise body-part ruled and the auspicious place associated with each mansion. Together these three classical sources form the authoritative Vedic framework of Nakshatra-based health correspondence.

The Garbhini Anga (गर्भिणी अंग) column holds special significance in obstetric Jyotisha. The Brihat Samhita teaches that when the Moon transits a particular Nakshatra, the corresponding Garbhini Anga of a pregnant woman is considered especially sensitive. Physicians and astrologers traditionally advised avoiding surgery, heavy labour, or massage of that limb during such transits, and prescribed protective rituals to safeguard both mother and child.
