Krittika Nakshatra
“The Cutter, the one who cuts away impurity”
Krittika is the third Nakshatra, straddling the boundary between Aries and Taurus, between fire and earth. Governed by the Sun and presided over by Agni, the sacred fire deity, Krittika embodies the purifying power of flame. Like fire itself, Krittika cuts away the impure, illuminates the dark, and transforms everything it touches. The Pleiades, the famous star cluster known in Sanskrit as Krittika, are the celestial mothers who nursed the war-god Skanda (Kartikeya). This Nakshatra carries fierce nurturing energy: protective as a mother, sharp as a blade, and bright as the sun.

∞ Mythology
Stories & Deity Wisdom
The six stars of Krittika are identified with the six Krittikas, the divine foster mothers of Kartikeya (Skanda), the commander of the celestial armies. When the gods needed a warrior to defeat the demon Tarakasura, Shiva and Parvati's son Kartikeya was born. Six divine mothers, the Krittikas, nursed the six-headed child simultaneously, each head drinking from a different mother. This origin story explains why Skanda is also called Kartikeya (son of Krittika) and Shanmukha (six-faced). The myth speaks to Krittika's profound nurturing capacity hidden beneath its fierce exterior, the warrior is sustained by the mother's fire.
♃ Career
Work & Profession
Krittika natives excel wherever sharp discernment, leadership, and technical precision are required. Natural vocations include surgery and dentistry (the cutting arts of medicine), military and police leadership, teaching and academia (the fire of knowledge), metallurgy and engineering, cooking and culinary arts (Agni governs the sacred fire of the kitchen), politics and administration, and spiritual leadership. The Sun's rulership gives a natural authority that others recognize and follow.
⊕ Health
Body & Wellness
Krittika governs the eyes, the back of the head, and the upper shoulders. Agni's fire rules the digestive system, making Krittika particularly sensitive to digestive health. Common tendencies include eye strain and vision issues, acid reflux and digestive fire imbalances, shoulder tension from carrying responsibility, fever-related conditions (excess fire), and skin conditions (pitta imbalance). Krittika natives should avoid excessive heat, spicy foods, and the burning of internal fire through anger.
