Shravana Nakshatra

The Listener, hearing, learning through sound

Shravana, the Listener, is the Nakshatra of sacred hearing, learning, and the transmission of divine knowledge through sound. Ruled by the Moon and presided over by Vishnu, the great preserver of cosmic order, Shravana embodies the principle that the highest knowledge comes not through speaking but through listening, to the teacher, to the tradition, and ultimately to the silent voice of the divine within. The three footprints of Vishnu recall his famous Trivikrama form, in three steps, Vamana-Vishnu measured and encompassed the entire universe. Shravana natives similarly have an extraordinary capacity to absorb, encompass, and transmit vast amounts of knowledge.

∞ Mythology

Stories & Deity Wisdom

Vishnu, Shravana's presiding deity, is the great preserver of the cosmic order (dharma), the one who descends in avatar form whenever dharma is threatened. The three footprints of Shravana's symbol refer specifically to his Vamana avatar, the dwarf brahmin who begged three steps of land from the generous demon king Bali, then expanded to cosmic size and measured earth, heaven, and the underworld in three steps. Vishnu-Vamana's three steps represent the three states of consciousness, waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, and the awareness that encompasses all three. Shravana natives, through Vishnu's grace, develop this encompassing awareness through patient, devoted listening.
