Mula Nakshatra
“The Root, the foundation, going to the source”
Mula, the Root, is perhaps the most profound and spiritually intense Nakshatra in the entire zodiac. Ruled by Ketu and presided over by Nirriti, the goddess of dissolution and the breaking of bonds, Mula sits near the galactic center, the Milky Way's heart. Those born under Mula are here for deep work, the investigation of roots, the dissolution of the false, and the discovery of what remains when everything temporary has been stripped away. Mula natives are researchers into the deepest levels of reality: the scientist who goes to the root of matter, the mystic who goes to the root of consciousness, the healer who addresses the root cause rather than the symptom.

∞ Mythology
Stories & Deity Wisdom
Nirriti, Mula's presiding deity, is one of the most ancient and least understood figures in the Vedic pantheon. She is the goddess of dissolution, decay, and the breaking of bonds, dwelling in the south, the direction of the ancestors and death. Yet Nirriti is not simply a goddess of destruction. Her name means 'she who destroys bonds', and in the deepest sense, the bonds she destroys are the bonds of illusion, attachment, and false identity. The Atharva Veda invokes Nirriti to release people from the bonds of sin, debt, and karmic entanglement. Mula natives, under her governance, are instruments of this release, helping others (and themselves) dissolve what no longer serves, making space for genuine transformation.
♃ Career
Work & Profession
Mula natives excel in fields that go to the root of things. Natural vocations include medical research and pathology, pharmaceutical and herbal medicine, philosophy and metaphysics, archaeology and history, astrology and occult sciences, psychology and deep trauma work, mining and geology, chemistry and molecular research, and any field requiring radical investigation. Their connection to the galactic center gives extraordinary intuitive access to fundamental truths.
⊕ Health
Body & Wellness
Mula governs the feet, the left side of the trunk, and the hips and thighs (Sagittarius). Ketu's influence creates unusual or mysterious health patterns. Common tendencies include hip and thigh concerns, digestive issues in the lower digestive tract, nervous system conditions, mysterious ailments that resist conventional diagnosis, and mental health challenges connected to existential questioning. Mula natives benefit from grounding practices, gardening, herbalism, and walking barefoot in nature.
