Bhava Bala calculates three values for each of the 12 houses. Unlike Shad Bala (which has minimum required values per planet), Bhava Bala is interpreted on a relative scale — comparing each house's strength against the others in the same chart, and noting whether Drishti Bala is positive or negative.
Find the midpoint of each house (Bhava Madya). Identify the zodiac sign of that midpoint. The ruler of that sign is the house lord. Take that planet's Shad Bala total (in Virupas) as the Bhavadhipathi Bala. No additional calculation needed — it is directly from the Shad Bala table.
Identify the sign at the midpoint of each house. Classify the sign as Human, Aquatic, Animal, or Insect. Find which house number gives that sign type its maximum strength (60 Virupas). Calculate: |Actual house number − Maximum strength house number|. Then: |Result − 6| × 10 = Bhava Dig Bala in Virupas.
For each of the 7 planets, calculate the angular distance from the planet to each Bhava Madya. Use the aspect value table to find the base aspect strength at that angle. Apply special additions: Jupiter at 120°/240° adds 30V; Saturn at 60°/270° adds 45V; Mars at 90°/210° adds 15V. For Jupiter and Mercury: take full value (benefic +). For all others: take 1/4 of value. Benefics = positive (+), Malefics (Saturn, Mars, Sun) = negative (−). Sum all values for each Bhava = Bhava Drishti Bala.
