When Mercury is placed in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house) and is in its own sign (Gemini or Virgo) or in its exalted sign (Virgo), the native becomes physically strong, handsome, lion-faced, elephant-gait, broad-chested, sweet-voiced, virtuous, learned, stable-minded, intelligent, independent, judicious (but not forgiving), extremely wealthy, blessed with comforts, wife and children, and dies at 80 on a pilgrimage. This is called Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga.

Mercury (Budha) is placed in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house) and is either in its own sign (Gemini or Virgo) or in its exalted sign (Virgo). Note: Mercury's exalted sign is Virgo, which is also its own sign – a special case.

Special Conditions for Yoga Formation10
✦Condition 1. Mercury conjunct Sun or Moon: Mercury in Kendra + own/exalted sign, but conjunct Sun or Moon. Yoga effects are somewhat diminished. However, good effects come into place in Mercury dasha.
✦Condition 2. Sun and Moon bereft of strength: Mercury in Kendra + own/exalted sign, but Sun and Moon weak (debilitated, in enemy sign, or combust). Yoga effects are somewhat diminished in power. Person still attains happiness.
