Planetary Transits 2026: Jupiter, Saturn, and Rahu-Ketu

2026 carries three planetary movements that classical Jyotish treats as consequential above all others. Jupiter changes signs. The Rahu-Ketu axis shifts. Saturn, already settled in Pisces, continues his long transit of a sign he does not consider home.

Each movement alone reshapes the sky. Together they define the character of the year.

Jupiter's Movement Through Taurus

Jupiter entered Taurus in May 2024 and moved into Gemini in May 2025. As 2026 opens, Jupiter is in Gemini, the sign of Mercury. This is a sign of commerce, communication, siblings, and short journeys. Jupiter in Gemini brings expansion of knowledge, of networks, of information. The challenge is dispersion. Gemini scatters. Jupiter amplifies. The risk of the period is knowing many things shallowly rather than one thing deeply.

Jupiter in Gemini aspects by his full aspect Sagittarius, Libra, and Aquarius. Sagittarius, his own sign, receives his 7th aspect and feels this as a direct strengthening of dharmic purpose. Libra receives his 5th aspect, supporting creativity and children. Aquarius receives his 9th aspect, bringing good fortune to the sign of Saturn.

For Sagittarius Lagna and Pisces Lagna natives, Jupiter as Lagna lord in Gemini brings the planet of self into the 7th and 4th respectively. The 7th house transit of the Lagna lord strengthens partnerships and public facing activity. The 4th house transit deepens home and family concerns.

Jupiter will move into Cancer in mid-2026. This is exaltation. Jupiter in Cancer is the most powerful position for the planet of wisdom and expansion. The natural beneficence of Jupiter combines with the exaltation strength to produce a transit that the tradition marks as broadly auspicious. For most Rashis, Jupiter's arrival in Cancer brings relief, opportunity, and the potential for genuine growth.

Cancer Lagna and Scorpio Lagna receive particularly direct benefit. For Cancer Lagna, Jupiter as lord of the 6th and 9th transiting the 1st brings the 9th lord, the lord of dharma and fortune, directly to the self. For Scorpio, Jupiter as lord of the 2nd and 5th in the 9th brings wealth and children to fortune.

Saturn in Pisces

Saturn entered Pisces in March 2023. He will remain there until early 2026 before moving into Aries, where he will be debilitated.

Saturn in Pisces is an unusual placement. Pisces is the sign of Jupiter, a planet fundamentally unlike Saturn in temperament. Jupiter is expansive, optimistic, and philosophical. Saturn is contracting, realistic, and methodical. Saturn in Jupiter's sign must work through Jupiter's themes with Saturn's tools. Institutions of spirituality, places of retreat, hospitals, ashrams, and the invisible dimensions of life all come under Saturn's slow examination.

For Pisces Lagna natives, this has been a period of Saturn transiting the Lagna itself, the experience of Sade Sati's peak for those with Pisces Moon, and generally a period requiring endurance and shedding of what is no longer necessary.

Saturn's move into Aries in 2026 is significant. Aries is Saturn's sign of debilitation. Neecha Saturn is Saturn at his most uncomfortable. The planet of discipline and order placed in the sign of Mars, the planet of impulsive action and aggression, finds his natural mode of operation constantly challenged. Debilitated planets do not perform consistently. They produce erratic results, sometimes surprisingly positive through what is called Neecha Bhanga, the cancellation of debilitation, and sometimes genuinely weak.

Neecha Bhanga occurs for debilitated Saturn in Aries when Mars, the sign lord of Aries, is strong and well-placed. When Jupiter aspects Aries. When Saturn himself is in a Kendra from the Lagna. These cancellations restore much of Saturn's functional capacity.

For Aries Lagna and Scorpio Lagna natives, Saturn's debilitation in Aries has specific implications that require individual chart analysis. For Libra Lagna, Saturn as Yoga Karaka becoming debilitated is a particularly significant transit requiring careful reading.

The Rahu-Ketu Axis Shift

Rahu and Ketu always move retrograde. They spend approximately 18 months in each sign pair before shifting. In 2025, the axis moved from Aries-Libra to Pisces-Virgo.

Rahu in Pisces and Ketu in Virgo defines much of 2025 and extends into 2026.

Rahu in Pisces operates in Jupiter's sign of dissolution, spirituality, and the unconscious. Rahu amplifies and distorts whatever sign he occupies. In Pisces, this means amplification of spiritual longing, confusion between the real and the imagined, and an increase in everything related to the ocean, hospitals, foreign lands, and hidden realms. The collective preoccupation with spiritual matters, psychic phenomena, and the dissolution of firm boundaries is a Rahu in Pisces phenomenon.

Ketu in Virgo brings the planet of release and detachment into the sign of detail, service, and health. Ketu in Virgo produces a loosening of the grip on the material, analytical, and service-oriented dimensions of life. Health matters may surface not to cause permanent harm but to point the native toward a different relationship with the body.

For Gemini Lagna and Virgo Lagna natives, this axis placement across the 10th-4th and 1st-7th respectively requires careful examination. Rahu across the 10th from Gemini can bring unconventional career developments, sudden visibility, and involvement with foreign elements in professional life.

The next axis shift will bring Rahu into Aquarius and Ketu into Leo. This shift changes the entire dynamic. The nodes in the Saturn-Sun axis bring up themes of authority, ego, service to larger collective structures, and the tension between individual identity and systemic belonging.

Reading the Combined Picture

The tradition's approach to multiple simultaneous transits is not to read each one in isolation but to identify the convergences.

When Jupiter transits Cancer in 2026, he aspects Capricorn, Scorpio, and Pisces by his three special aspects. Saturn simultaneously transits Aries. Rahu is in Pisces. The picture for Pisces is Saturn aspecting from Aries by his 10th house special aspect while Rahu occupies the sign. Jupiter's aspect reaches Pisces as well. This is a sign under considerable planetary attention in 2026.

For the Moon signs most directly affected, the classical principle is to examine whether the transiting planet is a natural benefic or malefic, whether it is functionally benefic or malefic for the specific Lagna, and what Ashtakavarga score the planet carries in the sign it is transiting.

Jupiter in Cancer with a high Ashtakavarga score is unambiguously supportive. Saturn debilitated in Aries with a low Ashtakavarga score is genuinely difficult. The native caught between Jupiter's positive aspect and Saturn's debilitation will find 2026 a year of simultaneous opportunity and constraint, often in different life domains.

The Dasha Overlay

Transit results are mediated by the Dasha. A Rahu Dasha native experiencing Rahu in Pisces in their chart will feel the Rahu transit more acutely than a native running a Venus Dasha. A Jupiter Dasha native will be more sensitive to Jupiter's movement into exaltation and should position themselves to take advantage of that transit window.

The Dasha lord at the time of a major transit is like the host receiving a guest. If the host and guest are compatible, the visit produces harmony. If they are not, the transit period becomes friction-filled regardless of the transit's theoretical quality.

What to Do With This Information

The classical tradition's purpose in analyzing transits was never to paralyze the native with predictions. It was to inform timing.

If Jupiter moves into Cancer and Cancer is your 9th house, and Jupiter rules your 1st and 4th, this is a window for matters related to dharma, travel, higher education, and fortune. Use it intentionally. The transit does not guarantee results. It creates conditions favorable for specific kinds of effort.

If Saturn moves into Aries and Aries is your 7th house, this is a window for realistic assessment of partnerships, for releasing what has become a burden in relationships, and for building partnership structures on more solid foundations. The difficulty of Saturn's debilitation in your 7th is not a curse. It is a pressure that can produce either collapse or necessary restructuring depending entirely on what the native chooses to do with it.

The planets create weather. The native decides whether to go out in the rain without preparation or to bring an umbrella.

This analysis covers the major transits of 2026 from a classical Jyotish perspective. Individual impact requires assessment against the natal chart, Dasha sequence, and Ashtakavarga scores specific to the native's chart.
